  • Tagore Ramoutar is an award-winning entrepreneurial director and advisor specialising in new business start-up; SME management; planning and strategy; business development and strategic project management in both the UK and overseas. He has over 25 years’ experience in new venture start-ups with sector specific experience in premium spirits, luxury technology and petrol retailing.

In 2015 Tagore co-founded a grain-to-glass distillery, The Oxford Artisan Distillery. He developed the company proposition, launch plan and strategy, and secured funds against it. He successfully raised £3.38m funds via crowdfunding and networking. Tagore managed the 2017 company launch and subsequent management of operations up until September 2020 within very tight budget constraints.  At the end of 2020 Tagore stepped down as Managing Director, having seen the distillery through the worst of the COVID-19 lock down and having put in place the building blocks for the future. He remains on the board of the legal entity (Still On The Hill Ltd) as an NED, and is the distillery’s representative on the embryonic English Whisky Guild’s board.

Prior to the distillery, after leaving corporate world, Tagore set up his own business consultancy which specialises in assisting new business ventures. Projects have included luxury consumer electronics, sales planning software and a premium tea online retailer. Tapping into his experience of two growing daughters he has written and illustrated several children’s books, set-up his own UK publishing entity and sold over 6,000 books.

As employee number 40, he helped launch the first luxury communications company Vertu and was on the global board for 6 years. Tagore held a number of senior and pivotal roles (spanning manufacturing to product management) at Vertu; which throughout the “noughties” and before the arrival of the iPhone not only created a profitable proposition but also a new category.

He is highly experienced at start-ups (corporate and entrepreneurial), new product development, new packaging, compliance, creating international market entries and managing international partners.

Tagore is a graduate of the University of Cambridge and has spent his career in Oxford, London, Budapest and Tokyo. He has worked extensively in the UK, Central Eastern Europe, Japan and Switzerland, plus a variety of international roles.

In 2019 Tagore was honoured to win the IoD London and South Director of the Year for start-ups.
